Welcome to my weekly update for June 28, 2026!
In case you’ve missed it, Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl has posted her Christmas in July sign-ups. The deadline to join is 11:59 PM EDT on June 30th so time is running out if you’d like to participate. I took part in the Christmas exchange and had so much fun! Thanks to Cindy at Cindy’s Book Corner for posting her own reminder because I had forgotten!
My husband was on call for emergencies at the hospital all last weekend so we didn’t do anything. It was nice for me to have a weekend to relax though.
I like to share some of our pictures with you so there are a couple below. The sunset picture was taken from our campground. We stay in our RV while my husband is working at different hospitals around the country. The sun sets very late here in the upper peninsula of Michigan, so I sit on the couch with half my attention on whatever show we’re watching on any evening and the other half on the sunset. We see beautiful sunsets more often than not.
The lighthouse photo was taken during our visit to Green Bay, Wisconsin about a month ago. I sent this picture or one like it to my aunt and uncle, who texted me back and said that it reminded them of the show Widow’s Bay. We haven’t watched it yet but Erin at Cracker Crumb Life posted a positive review of it recently so this lighthouse has been on my mind.

I can barely do Christmas in December, so I’d better not try to do Christmas in July! haha
I’ve just started Ann Patchett’s new book, Whistler, but when I retire someday, I may go back and reread all her books!

Gorgeous sunset! Your campground doesn’t look too full, which must be nice. I’m trying to figure out where we want to go in September. I was thinking about the North Cascades National Park but I have to keep in mind the forest fire situation. Just saw that the town of Winthrop is at a GO stage for evacuations. Maybe we’ll just go somewhere nearby on the coast.
Oh, we loved little Winthrop! I didn’t realize there’s a fire nearby. It’s such a cute little town. I hope they make it through. What about going somewhere further east in Washington, around Lake Chelan? Is that away from the fire? We thought it was really pretty in that area when we passed through on our way from Idaho to North Cascades. Our campground isn’t even half full so far, which has been really, really nice. Since my husband has to be within 30 minutes of the hospital for shifts when he’s on call, we’re usually in “city” campgrounds, where it feels like we can practically shake hands with our neighbors out our windows. I think the busy season will be July and August, but at least the sites here are large, even if it does get full. We struggle with deciding where we want to go in the fall. Between fire season out west (or anywhere, really), hurricane season in the south, and cold weather arriving in the rest of the country by Halloween or Thanksgiving, we feel like Goldilocks but without anywhere that’s “just right.”
Lake Chelan was also on our list but they just had a “Go” evacuation yesterday, I believe. Washington is really having a bad fire season, as is Utah. We may just go south on the coast to the California border. I suppose, for you guys, Southern California would be best for your fall placement. Or Oregon. 🙂
That’s why we end up in So Cal so often 😄 We were in Portland for the Riverside and Lionshead fires. That was really scary. I think that destroyed any desire we had to ever spend fall in the PNW!

That sunset is lovely! I feel like I’ve been seeing Dungeon Crawler Carl a lot lately, but I’m not sure if it would be my cup of tea, so I haven’t tried it yet. That Middle Grade book looks fun, though!
Dungeon Crawler Carl isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re judging by the cover, please don’t. The cover is terrible and I would never have read it if my friend hadn’t recommended it. The middle grade pirate book was a lot of fun!
Ahh that’s good to know. Yes, the cover is a little off-putting haha!

Your photos are beautiful. I envy you; it would be fun to travel every few months to a new spot. I bet the weather is cool where you are this summer. I am looking forward to Ann Patchett’s new book when it comes in for me at the library.
The weather has been cool but it rocketed up to the low 90s this week. We’ve mostly been in the mid-60s at best since we arrived in mid-May so this has been a shock to everyone’s system. You really can’t go wrong with Ann Patchett!
