Train in Concert (Or, In Which I Gush Like A Fangirl)

March 15, 2010 2 Comments

Train first caught my attention when they came out with “Meet Virginia” back around 1998. Yeah, that long ago. When they released “Drops of Jupiter” in 2001, I was completely, totally in love. That was about the time that I was falling completely, totally in love with my hubby, so I think all of that […]

Wicked: Musical Review

February 8, 2010 6 Comments

I meant to post this last weekend, but I got busy and forgot. I got to see Wicked! I feel like I’m the last person in the world to see it, but it was a huge deal for me! I love musicals, whether they’re on stage or on the screen. Call me cheesy if you […]

Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science-and the W Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science-and the World by Rachel Swaby: Book Review--4 Stars. See my full review on my blog at the link in my bio.I love that Ms. Swaby has taken the time to write mini biographies of women in the sciences whose accomplishments are so often overlooked. They made significant discoveries. Iโ€™d heard of some; others were completely new to me. Iโ€™m glad to have some gaps in my knowledge filled in. I was often outraged by the men who took credit for the womenโ€™s work. This was perhaps not the best choice for my bedtime reading!A book like this is best suited to reading about one woman every day or week or whatever. I struggle to read like that so I sped through it. If youโ€™re a reader who is happy taking your time, youโ€™ll get more out of it than I did. I have to admit that the womenโ€™s stories were starting to run together for me by the end.But this is an important book. We need to remember past generations of women scientists so that we can inspire those who will build our future. #ReadNonFicChal
