Weekly Update at Introverted Reader

Welcome to my weekly update for August 16, 2026!

My sister visited my husband and me in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan over the past week. I didn’t schedule anything to post while she was here because I knew I would be busy with her. She left for home yesterday but we had a great visit! She fell in love with the UP. She said it’s one of her favorite places that she’s visited us. She liked the beautiful blue of Lake Superior, the hills around Marquette, the laid-back pace, and the astronomical number of trees vs people. I think she’s ready to retire up here in a couple of decades!

I think her favorite stop was MI DOG. The owner, Laura, is a long-distance musher who has completed the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest sled dog races not once but twice each! We got to meet her and a couple of very friendly volunteers who help her out. But our favorite part was playing with the puppies! She fosters puppies from other sled dog teams and visitors get to play with them. It’s a dopamine hit for the visitors and socializes the puppies. They were all so adorable! I think most of the ones we played with were about 9 weeks old. We saw both of her sled dog teams as well but they take turns socializing so we only got to pet four or five of them. She obviously has a strong bond with all her dogs!

Slideshow:

  • A close up of an Alaskan husky puppy. It's white with gray points and its mouth is wide open as it chews on a stick
  • A mostly black Alaskan husky puppy lies on a wood bench. He has a chewy bone but isn't chewing on it at the moment. One ear is up and the other is flopped down.
  • A brown and black Alaskan husky puppy rests half on a lap and half on a bench. It looks perfectly content to be cuddled.

  1. My husband somehow got his hands on three or four different puppies but we’re pretty sure this little cutie is Brie.
  2. My puppy was Cinco. This one didn’t really want to be held but (s)he was happy to be petted while lounging on the bench next to me.
  3. My sister had Viisi, which is Finnish for five. Cinco and Viisi are from the same litter, who are all named “Five” in different languages.
