Dewey Decimal Challenge hosted at The Introverted Reader

I wasn’t sure if I was going to host the 2012 Dewey Decimal Challenge.  I just don’t feel that I read enough non-fiction to be hosting it, but since I still don’t see anyone hosting a general non-fiction challenge, it’s once more into the breach for me!

The levels last year seemed to be entirely too easy for some of you, so I’ve revamped them a bit. Don’t worry; I’ve still kept the lower numbers.

The Challenge:  Read any non-fiction book(s), adult or young adult. That’s it. You can choose anything. Poetry? Yes. Memoirs? Yes. History? Yes. Travel? Yes. You get the idea? Absolutely anything that is classified as non-fiction counts for this challenge.

I always like levels in my challenges, so here are mine:

Dilettante–Read 1-5 non-fiction books

Explorer–Read 6-10

Seeker–Read 11-15

Master–Read 16-20

This challenge will last from January 1 to December 31, 2012. You can sign up anytime throughout the year.

I am not limiting the challenge to bloggers. You can also link to a review you wrote on another site, such as GoodReads or LibraryThing.

Crossovers with other challenges are acceptable, and feel free to read your books in any format you like.

I’m signing up at the Seeker level. I’ll track my progress here.

  1. The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad, translated by Ingrid Christopherson
  2. On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
  3. Ava’s Man by Rick Bragg
  4. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, read by Cassandra Campbell with Bahni Turpin

  1. Just signing up. I've read 6 so far, thought it was only 5, and sign-up for Explorer. Four more to go!

  2. Just posted the link to The Maldive Mystery – it is not a mystery, but a book by Heyerdahl related to archeology!

  3. I'm upping my game to Explorer, seeing as how I've already posted three non-fic reviews this year and am drafting another couple. 🙂

And I've finally remembered to write the actual post about participating in the challenge … d'oh. How's that for forgetful? (Although it won't be posted for another 15 hours. But it's done!)

  4. I only signed up now… but thank you for hosting it, I was looking for something like this challenge!

  10. Hi, I was really excited to come across this challenge. I think I'm going to do the Dilettante level.

  11. Hope it is ok that I am asking a question in this space.

    Being new to Challenges….

In this Challenge, are cross-overs allowed?? (I think that's the correct term? a book that qualifies for more than one challenge?).

    Please let me know!

    Thank you
    Patricia

  12. I'm going for the Dilletante level. I don't usually read non-fiction. I really need this challenge.

  16. Yah! I'm so excited that you are hosting this book challenge. I'm going to go for Explorer. Thanks!

  17. I'll go for "Dilettante" level. If I end up with more than 5, that's good, but I'll definitely read at least one, probably more. 🙂
