A desperate plea for vacation advice! My husband and I are supposed to be heading out to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks soon. We’re looking for alternate recommendations, just in case the National Parks are still shut down. Grrrr. Huge thanks to Suey at It’s All About Books for the ideas she’s already submitted! And by the way, if you want to email your Representative about what you think about this mess, you can find them and their email addresses on the House of Representatives website.

Read:
The Fallen by T. Jefferson Parker, read by David Colacci

Currently Reading:
11/22/63 by Stephen King
Mountainfit by Meera Lee Sethi (Lookout for a guest post from Meera on October 25!)
Sanctus by Simon Toyne

Up Next:

I actually might finish 11/22/63 and Mountainfit! I’m debating whether or not to start a new audiobook this week. I won’t have time to finish before our vacation. My husband is not a fan of audiobooks but we’ll probably be doing a lot of driving, wherever we end up on vacation. Anyone have any ideas for something I can download that he might actually enjoy? The speaker would have to be incredibly engaging. He doesn’t read a lot but he does like historical mysteries, David Sedaris, and I actually got him to read the last two Harry Potters before the movies came out. Other than that, I need to stop by the library and search out some horror books to take with me. I always like to scare myself in my October reading. Have you read any good horror books lately?

What are you reading this week?

  1. I really hate that the powers-that-be have let this shutdown go on this long. Political battles have such an effect on the rest of us…but what are the consequences for those who created the mess?

Hope you find a vacation spot…and enjoy yourselves.

  2. I can't believe your govt can just shut down the way it has, it seems insane to me. I hope you find alternative vacation plans!

  3. I have my husband listening to Gone Girl, he seems to be enjoying it. 🙂

That sucks about your trip!! That was actually the first thing I thought of when I heard about the shutdown – everyone who had vacation plans at a National Park. 🙁 Were your overnight accommodations through the parks as well? I am not familiar with what is out that way. Did you check tripadvisor? I love that website.

  4. I wish I could recommend a vacation spot – but I have no idea! As for audiobooks, he might try the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo. I just finished Phantam (#10 I think) and it was pretty good. It's the only 1 in the series I've listened to, and it was fine as a standalone, but it was so good I plan to now go through the series.
