Weekly Update at Introverted Reader

Welcome to my weekly update for February 7, 2021!

The governor lifted Southern California’s stay-at-home orders so my husband and I took the opportunity to drive our RV up to Joshua Tree National Park for a long weekend. We’ve had beautiful weather while we’ve been here. It’s so nice to get out and hike again!

It’s been a busy week so I haven’t actually finished anything. I don’t even know the last time that happened!

Currently Reading:

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

A Blade So Black by L. L. McKinney, read by Jeanette Illidge

Unbeaten Tracks in Japan by Isabella Bird

Watching:

Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl LV is literally on the TV while I’m writing this. I don’t really watch sports (I relate a little too much to the characters from What We Do in the Shadows attending a Superb Owl party, in fact) but my husband does love football so we took a short hike this morning and made sure we got back to the RV in time to catch the big game. I have to admit that I am curious to see which QB comes out with the win in this matchup.

Up Next:

It’s another busy week so I’m not sure that I’ll even finish any of these.

  1. Gorgeous photos! The last couple of weeks have been busy too so I know how it goes. But it looks like you have some great books going. I literally laughed out loud when you mentioned What We Do in the Shadows Superb Owl party! OMG! lol. I love that show. I was sad the super bowl wasn’t closer but it was still fun to watch and see the commercials and eat some yummy food. So glad you were able to get out and hike! I hope you find some time to get some reading in!

  2. The Joshua tree ,for me it’s a song 🙂 Oh, Unbeaten tracks in Japan by Isabella Bird. I just checked but yes, I have it ! I should have thought about it for the Japanese literature challenge, but I completely forgot. I hope it’s good ? Enjoy your week !

  3. Nice to have a busy week for a change, then? I brought home What We Do in the Shadows from the library after seeing it mentioned by a blogger a while ago, but we didn’t ever get to it and I had to bring the DVDs back. Will have to see if it’s on NetFlix. I love Ann Tyler’s books, including Redhead by the Side of the Road, although I confess I’m hazy on the details of it now!

  4. How wonderful to enjoy a weekend out in nature. We went to the Joshua Tree National Park last year in February too actually. Absolutely loved it and would love to go back again. Hope you are able to spend some time with your books!

  5. Sounds like you had a great week! I hope you (and especially your husband) enjoyed the Super Bowl. I’m not much of a football fan, but I did miss the socializing that comes with the Super Bowl party we attend in normal years.

A Blade So Black is on my list of books to read soon. I’m curious to see what you think of it!

    1. We missed our Super Bowl party as well. It was doubly sad because our elderly neighbors usually host us all but the husband passed away last year. At least we’re on the road so we didn’t notice the difference as much.

  6. I watch a little football – mostly the Minnesota Vikings – and had the TV on for the game. I was actually hoping that it would have been a better, more equal, contest. Good luck with fitting in reading this week. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  7. Oh I loved The White Queen! Phillipa Gregory is quite the author! I hope you enjoy that one. So happy to hear you get to go outside and hike and breathe fresh air! It’s on my bucket list to visit that national park!!!!

  8. Ah, yes, Joshua Tree National Park. It has been years since I went there, but it is awesome. Glad you could get away.

I loved Redhead by the Side of the Road and The Library of Lost and Found. I am curious about End of Watch. Have a great week!

Thanks for sharing, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  9. What We Do in the Shadows is the funniest! Yep, somehow they are relatable vampires. Your trip to Joshua Tree sounds amazing. I’ve wanted to visit ever since that U2 album came out in the 80s. 😃

  10. I’m embarrassed to admit that I haven’t been to Joshua Tree. What a great place to go right now!

  11. Sigh. We were supposed to be in Joshua Tree last April, but had to cancel. Where did you stay? Was it very crowded? In all the years we lived in San Diego, we never made it out to JT.

We didn’t watch the Super Bowl, but I just finished watching a bunch of the commercials, which is all I really care about. Safe travels!

  12. I’ve always wanted to visit Joshua Tree. I hope so much that we are able to do more traveling later this year. The pandemic has made me want to travel all the more.

I’m glad you didn’t get a chance to finish your books this week. It gave me a second chance to look up the Isabella Bird book.

I hope your husband enjoys the Super Bowl, and that the best quarterback wins.

  13. Oh, I miss hiking! There are a lot of hiking options around me, but the weather here is…blech. I’m hoping to make the most of the trails this spring and summer. Have a great week!

  14. Beautiful photos! I am glad you were able to get out finally. I bet the weather was perfect for a hike. I am glad you enjoyed The Library of Lost and Found. That’s on my list to read someday. I hope you are enjoying your current reads. I really want to read A Blade So Black. No Super Bowl for us, but we are enjoying a quiet Sunday. I hope you have a great week!
