Weekly Update at Introverted Reader

Welcome to my weekly update for January 24, 2021!

It’s been a quiet week here. I watched the inauguration ceremonies for at least half a day. I’m relieved that everything went off smoothly. I missed the Virtual Parade Across America because my TV station went to local news but I did stream it later. I enjoyed it hugely! It was nice to see such optimism across the country!

  1. I’m starting to feel guilty for watching none of the inauguration. I feel as though I had been there, though! I loved Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk on audio so I might look for Cher Ami on audio, too. I read through The Little Book of Hygge a while ago, but can’t say I remember much from it! I listened to the End of Watch, and liked it. I love Stephen King books on audio. He’s a great storyteller!

    1. I know my social media feed was full of all the best moments from the inauguration. I’m sure you’ve picked up on the highlights. My review for The Little Book of Hygge posts next Monday but I will say I didn’t learn much that I’m not already doing. It was a cute book but not very memorable to me in my life.

  2. Sounds like you had a good week! I’ll be honest, I’m glad the inauguration was so boring, relative to what it could have been. Uneventful is something I never thought I’d be hoping for, but there you go.

  3. The Little Book of Hygge has intrigued me for a while! I hope you enjoy it! I was glad the Inauguration went off without a hitch; I hope America can come back together. Happy reading and have a great week!

  4. I spent all day watching CNN on Wednesday but they never showed the Parade Across America. I was sort of looking forward to it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  5. Is the Stephen King book in your queue part of the Mr. Mercedes series? I watched every moment of the inauguration and rewatched several parts. Whew. We survived the Trump era. Maybe JUST but we did.

  6. I loved the concert the night of the Inauguration! I think I liked it better than the “usual” post-Inauguration festivities. Perhaps that is something they’ll keep for years to come.

I’ve been meaning to read the hygge book–I mean, I’m all for anything cozy!

    1. I missed most of the concert! I need to stream it somewhere. I really liked the whole virtual parade and everything. Maybe production wasn’t as polished as it usually is, but it felt like more of an accurate reflection of the country that way.

  7. Having the inauguration go off without a hitch was a big plus to the week along with the Bernie memes! lol. I can’t wait to read Circe. It has been on my list for far too long. Looking forward to finishing up Snow Child soon. I hope you have a great week!

  8. I was so relieved for the inauguration. I enjoyed the memorial the night before, the poet Amanda Gorman and the Bernie mitten memes! I have some hope now. We will see. Stay well!

  9. So glad that the Inauguration went off smoothly and glad it has created optimism – it’s something the world sadly needs right now! I enjoyed your review of Circe, which I loved. Have a great week:)).

  10. I watched most of the Inauguration (spectacular day!!), but missed the Virtual Parade and the events of the evening. Fortunately, YouTube has these for viewing, so I’ll enjoy the parade later today. Thanks for the reminder! It’s an odd feeling; was the Inauguration really only last Wednesday? It feels like it was over a week ago! I loved seeing Harris and Biden getting sworn in, but the highlight for me was Amanda Gorman’s recitation of her amazing poem.

Looks like you had a very good week of reading. I love The Snow Child and will add Circe to my list for (hopefully) 2021. I didn’t realize that Girl in Translation is considered a Young Reader book. When I worked for Barnes & Noble, we had it categorized as general fiction.

I’m about halfway through Pigs in Heaven (Barbara Kingsovler), which is a reread for me. It’s just as good as it was 20 years ago! I plan/hope to reread a book each month this year.

Have a great week. I guess you’re getting a little wind and rain down there.

  11. Stacy Abrams is pretty darn amazing. What she did in Georgia will have lasting effects in the state and in the nation. I hope her book is interesting, I’ve been thinking of watching the Netflix documentary.

  12. How did I miss the Virtual Parade Across America? We don’t have tv, so I watched the inauguration on PBS, and maybe that’s why. I’ve just seen a montage from it. Thank you for sharing this. So lovely.

I’m glad to see how much you enjoyed Snow Child and Circe. I’ll be curious to see what you think of Cher Ami and Our Time is Now.

I hope you have a great week.

  13. Wednesday was so good! Things have been looking up and feeling optimistic.

Looks like you are having a great week in books – Curious to hear your thoughts on the Stacey Abrams book.

  14. The optimism feels good, even for non-us inhabitants ^^ Cher ami and major Whittlesey looks good, I read a review singing its praises, so I hope you like it too. Have a great week !

  15. I agree about the inauguration- it as nice to see it go off without a hitch. the optimism is refreshing as well.

I’m glad to see that Circe was good! I love mythology and it sounds fabulous, honestly.
